WATER RESOURCE DEVELOPEMENT

NAIP aim is to ensure the irrigation water supply to at least 400 families per cluster. Increased water availability needs to be ensured for at least two crops in a year. The budget available for this component is Rs. 35 lakhs per cluster, which includes the costs of measures as well as the training, monitoring and other overheads related to WRD.

‘Catchment approach’ is to be adopted in implementation of all WRD activities. For achieving the better impact, selection of the participants (for horticulture, agriculture) should be contiguous in the small catchments. For sustainability Pos such as Users’ Groups are to be formed and strengthened.

After completion of Socio-economic survey, technical surveys will be undertaken. NAIP cluster team will undergo training before initiating the survey. Training inputs and support for action planning and activity scheduling are to be sought from Watershed team(BDP/SG). It is advisable to have two training events–one for districts in Vidarbha and other for Nagar and Nandurbar. However, the resource team will decide on the administration of these training(s).

WRD primarily includes construction of check dams, construction and/or repairs of wells. The water utilization activities include the pumps, water lift arrangements–pipelines, micro-irrigation systems. ‘Watershed approach’ is to be adopted in implementation of all WRD activities. For achieving the better impact, selection of the participants (for horticulture, agriculture) should be contiguous in the small catchments.

For water resource development (construction/repair of check dams, wells), project will support 100% material costs and minimum 10% labour should be participants’ contribution. In case of water utilization devises, the in the small groups, at least 10% of material cost and 100% labour should be contributed by the participants. The contribution amount will be set aside as maintenance fund in the bank account of the respective committees at cluster level.

Technologies imparted in the disadvantaged area:
   • Temporary Check Dams
   • Bodi/improvement in bodi
   • Farm bunding
   • Farm ponds
   • Spring development
   • Micro irrigation technologies such as sprinklers
