POMBHURNA

Pombhurna is a block place. It located at the distance of 50 kms on the east of District place. On east boundary it has Gadchiroli district. From other sides it is surrounded by blocks in Chandrapur district namely Mool, Chandrapur, Ballarpur and Gondpimpari. Cluster office is located at Pombhurna and project interventions will be in surrounding villages. Total villages selected in the cluster are 16. Baseline surveys and PRAs were conducted in six core villages namely Check Ballarpur, Check Khapari, Check Thanewasana, Velava and Dighori.

• Out of 252 families 16 families (6%) do not hold any livestock.
• 216 families (86%) are holding large animals. As against this number of families having small animals is 196 (76%).
• Few crossbreds (28) are there in the cluster.
• Average livestock holding in the cluster is 8.

Agriculture:

• Irrigation: It appears that every farmer has irrigation facility available to him. Most of them have
  either well (38%) or farm pond (bodi) irrigation source (30%).
• Cropping pattern: In contrast to the irrigation facilities available to the farmers only 11 % of the
   crops are taken under irrigation. Pulses, Soya and Paddy are the major crops forming 39, 29 and 21
   percent of total crop acreage respectively. In pulses Moong is the major crop.
• 100% of the farmers have adopted using chemical fertilizers.
• 11 farmers i.e. 4% have followed the practice of getting their soil tested.
• Almost all the farmers make use of bullock power for carrying out tillage operations and only 1
   farmer deploys tractor for ploughing his land.
