NANDURBAR

Nandurbar lies in the North Western region of Maharashtra on the border of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Until 1998, it was a part of Dhule district. It has a total area of 5035 sq. km. of which 45% consists of forestland. Administratively, it is divided into six blocks, Akkalkuwa, Dhadgao (Akrani), Shahada, Taloda, Navapur and Nandurbar.

Nandurbar is a tribal district, with 62% tribal population and 75% of the rural population belonging to different tribes. Three of the six blocks have a tribal population of more than 80 per cent (Census, 2001). The main tribes of Nandurbar are Konkani, Bhils, Dhankas, Gamuts, Pawra and Mavchi. Their dialects include Bhilori, Pawra, Mavchi, Konkani and Ahirani.

Two clusters in Nadurbar Mandane and Khandbara are identified. KVK, Nandurbar has the responsibility of implementation in Khandbara.

Khandbara is located 30 kms away from Nandurbar district headquarter. Total 21 villages have been selected for the programme. Core villages are 8 namely Borcheck (east), Borchek (west), Karanjali, Modulipada, Nagare, Nizampur, Nimbhoni, Palipada.

Mandane is at the distance of around 60 kms from district place. Total 16 villages will be benefited from the programme. Core villages are 7 namely; Bulane, Chandshaili, Mandane, Manmodaya, Navanagar, Titari and Vadgaon.
