LIVESTOCK DEVELOPEMENT

NAIP aim is to improve productivity of livestock for 1000 households (400-500 families and another 500 families in peripheral villages) and provide improved technical and managerial services. Increased production and productivity will be achieved for cattle, buffaloes and goats of the participant’s families.

For this, training is planned for all NAIP cluster staff which will follow with cluster specific technical surveys. The traininginputs, and support for action planning and phasing schedule will be provided by CRS and Mittra team of livestock experts. Three trainings would be organized; one for all staff cutting across the intervention for integration of this component and other two would be region specific one in Vidarbha and other for Nagar and Nandurbar. The linkages with Animal Husbandry, dairy development, APMCs as well as with other livestock related GO and NGOs would be developed by planned programmes.

The primary activity for all TTCs would be of breeding and follow-up for cattle and buffaloes. The activities like fodder demonstration, complete feed and mineral mixture support, processing etc are innovative activities. This will have impact for better health and growth in general and with dairy animals for improved milk production. Bullock power is major source for power for small farmers in the area. For them general health and growth is more important than milk production per say. With cross breeds born, milk marketing with dairy and value addition by milk processing etc would also be innovative interventions. Goat development is another supplementary activity in all TTCs.

Although for all activities 100 % costs would be borne by the project, there would be participant’s contribution in the form of registration fees and other forms for developing better ownership for the programmes as well as for its accountabilities. The Rotational approaches i.e. take one and give one back in due course free” is to be adopted for Goat Bucks induction expansion/upscalling programme. For the ‘complete feed’ the crop residues will be provided by the participants where as project would support for its enrichment.

At community level, for training and exposures all cost would be borne by the project. However token registration fees would be paid by the participants. All activities would be implemented through the user groups at different levels. All participants’ contribution will go in the account of respective POs to be used as common fund.
