Operational Area

Indaram

Indaram is located in Aheri block. Aheri is 50 kms on the east of District place. On east boundary it has Chattisgarh state and on west Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. Baseline surveys and PRAs were conducted in 10 villages of cluster namely Abanapalli, Bamhne, Cherpalli, Chichguda, Indaram, Katepalli, Modumtura, Pusukpalli and Vyakantrao petha. The villages are more like small hamlets, majority of people residing here are Gonds.

• 230 families (94%) are holding large animals. As against this number of families having small animals
  is 183 (75%).
• Few crossbreds (6) exist in the cluster.
• Average livestock holding in the cluster is 9.

Agriculture:

• It is observed that almost all the crops grown in the area are rain fed, and negligible 3 acre of Rice
  is cultivated under irrigation. This point needs to be further studied.
• Major crops in the cluster are Jowar (34%) and Rice (52%). Other crops together are only 8 %
  including Soya 7%, different pulses together about 5% and linseed 1%.
• 77% of the farmers have adopted using chemical fertilizers, and all of them use 50 KGs or less per
  acre.
• Only 3 farmers i.e. 1% have followed the practice of getting their soil tested.
• None of the farmers is making use of tractor for the tillage operations. All of them are relying upon
  bullock power for carrying out their traditional tillage operations.
