Objective:-
»
Identification of QTL for milk yield, fat and protein percent in Buffaloes using Daughter Design in
   selected chromosomes.
»
Identification of positional candidate genes within QTLs and development of markers in Buffalo.
»
Fine mapping of QTL with SNP markers.

Outcomes:-
»
The most important outcome of the project shall be the buffalo specific QTL markers for milk
production. The knowledge of the QTL markers shall help in quantum jump in the buffalo productivity.
»
The project will generate new fundamental knowledge about the genes effecting milk production and
   other related traits.
»
The project shall provide leads for further research to pinpoint the causative mutations in the gene or
its regulatory regions responsible for QTL effect.
»
The project shall generate trained human resources to undertake QTL identification work in other
   livestock species.
»
IPR generated shall be the property of the ICAR.
»
It shall generate confidence among the researchers to take up similar work for identification of genes
responsible for other economic traits especially the adaptive traits of indigenous livestock.
»
It shall help in capacity building for undertaking work other species like goats.
