DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN

BAIF led NAIP recognizes significant contribution of women farmers in Indian agriculture. NAIP aims “to enable rural people and women in particular to improve livelihood security. This could be achieved through increased participation of rural women in development activities and decision making at community levels. For this, analysis of gender issues would be undertaken to identify the ways to increase women’s participation in project interventions”. Specific activities and methodology would include

Promoting organization of women in the form of SHGs, through which micro-credit would be available for their consumption and production needs:- Efforts would be made to mobilize 100% women in project area in SHGs. Focus would be on strengthening newly formed SHGs. For already formed SHGs, consultative help would be provided for their strengthening if the concerned groups express such needs and willing to participate in the processes initiated through NAIP. While doing this, need is to carefully assess such groups to avoid future complications with respect to their earlier affiliations. Cluster leader would take the reasonable decision using discretion.

Capacity building in technical skills:-For mainstreaming of women in development process, more and more women would be encouraged to participate in technical trainings and other primary groups such as Wadi-tukadi, Go-palak Sangh etc.

Capacity building of women would be undertaken to reduce drudgery and enable them to choose appropriate technological interventions and to enhance physical efficiency:-Activities such as promotion of fuel wood and fodder grass in the borders of wadi and in the catchments would be undertaken; which would reduce burden of women.
