ABOUT PROJECT
Sustainable Rural Livelihood Security Project (SRLS)-Maharashtra:- Under
component 3 of NAIP, BAIF as consortium leader will implement SRLS project in 5
backward districts of Maharashtra.The Consortium partners of BAIF are PDKV,
MPKV, MAFSU, BVU, and HSS. Project pofile is as under.
Objectives:- The overall objective is to develop
replicable and holistic approach for promoting sustainable livelihood for tribal
and remote areas of Maharashtra through integration and blending of tested
technologies and strategies of family focused and area based programmes. The
specific objectives are:
• To impart appropriate technologies suitable for improving the productivity of
natural resources and enhance employment
opportunities.
• To improve livelihood systems, device appropriate mechanisms and build
capabilities of people for seeking their entitlements.
• To document the impact of different technologies for sharing the experience
with farmers and development agencies for wider
replication in the state.
• To identify avenues for higher returns and market for the produce through
suitable post-harvest technologies and forward linkages.

Programme Design:-The overall Programme design is innovative.In the
proposed innovative design the consortium would like to offer a holistic
approach with convergence of the successful and tested technologies.
The approaches / technologies:– “Wadi” for orchard based / tree based
tribal development,livestock development through doorstep service approach,
Silvipasture for converting degraded community land into productive asset,
decentralized water resource management, family based on-farm/off-farm
enterprises for gainful self employment, processing of flax for omega-3 products
and giving higher returns to farmers, enrichment of animal nutrition,etc. of the
consortium partners will be converged in a cluster by ensuring quality inputs.
The programme will evolve a new approach of holistic cluster development in the
selected backward clusters and will have very high replication potential in the
backward regions.

Expected Outcome:-
• Increased farm productivity of participating farmers by at least 75%.
• Increased milk productivity (>1600lit/lactation) and additional income from
sale of livestock.
• Increased local employment opportunities (>60%) in on-farm and off-farm
activities leading to reduce distress migration
• Increased livelihood options to participant families (>3 options per family).
• Better realization of price to farm products through post harvest management,
value addition and market linkages(>20%).
• Empowered and vibrant people’s organizations addressing their own
developmental issues (>90% POs developed linkages with Govt/
Non Govt organizations for development programmes).
• The project learnings will provide quality inputs in formulation of programmes
influencing the public policies addressing issues of
poverty.

BAIF Development Research Foundation is a
voluntary organisation established in 1967, as a public charitable trust by Dr.
Manibhai Desai a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. BAIF is implementing a
multidisciplinary development programme covering livestock development, water
resource development, promotion of orchards, community health and empowerment of
women in 12 states, benefiting over 2.25 million families including tribals and
other weaker section of the society, spread over 40,000 villages.
